Come September. The mercury is falling, there is a lift in spirits and thnigs are happening. As we move closer to the first ever GIBM2012 (Global Indian Business Meet) organized under the NGI Foundation in the heart of New York city @ Marriott Marquis Hotel in Manhattan, we are thoroughly enjoying that feeling of oneness with the Indian diaspora as it congregates in the Big Apple.
The excitement of being there and meeting different people, sharing ideas,making friends and spending those few days with our fellow New Global Indians clearly and vividly flavours this issue!
We start with an excellent coverage on one of our major binding forces… the beautiful game of golf! All credit to Bikram Vohra who came out with this brilliant concept on Golf, Indians and Business in Dubai! It is the 21st century triangle and a very durable one at that. Ask any golfing enthusiast. Thanks to Dubai Golf’s Chris May and Julian Danby, for always being great partners and agreeing to contribute to this report and adding value by giving us some brilliant pictures and valuable quotes. As we meet in Dubai next year this advance ‘warning’ should get you to fix that chip shot and improve your putting average.
Indians, in my opinion, are amongst the major golfing fraternties in this region, in terms of sheer numbers. Ruqya Khan shares the thoughts from some of the stalwarts, mainly the General Manager of Dubai Golf Christopher May and the outstanding Vikram Judge, a prolific Indian Golfer and a successful businessman who has been a consistent winner on the cirucit for more than a decade.
To add to the green golf Courses of UAE, the NGI readers will get a glimpse of another ancient ‘green’ concept of mud architecture! Mud Matters has been brilliantly researched and documented by a young & brilliant architect, Ms Ramalakshmi.
Also in this edition, we invite ourselves for a conversation with Ved & Geeta Chabra, a highly successful and accomplished NRI couple, by Sharmila Mohan. We also have a special tribute to Mrs Ketki Hazra, a delightful personality and a talented dancer, brought to you by Neena Kataky. A very interesting article on Dr Rachna Mohan and her passion for textiles and fashion is covered by Ronita.
