In this edition of NGI we bring to you a mosaic of different colors and hues…there is something for each of you according to your different interests. Post coverage of Pyarelal Sharma’s hugely successful Absolute India brings out the passion and interest of the extremely gifted artists who made it happen, and the enthusiastic support of the Dubai audience… a successful Global Music event brought by ACORE Media along with Saffron ME, where even the Bollywood Hits of the golden era became International! For the first time, Bollywood musicians and acclaimed Indian Classical musicians combined with Western Classical musicians on the same platform, in the first ever collaboration between Pyarelal Sharma and Kristjan Jarvi. NGI’s Neetha Raman brings you a special report. After another successful EAFL event, NGI reporters Nayana and Neetha caught up with the Festival Director, Isobel Abulhoul and HE Sanjay Verma for their take on books, writers and the festival!

This year’s event saw a good turn out by Indian writers like Jerry Pinto, Chetan Bhagat, Ranjit Hoskote and PG Bhaskar among others. The recently concluded Art Dubai under its able Director Savita Apte saw art lovers flock to the gallery to see exhibits from 32 countries. While savoring the music, literature and art events in good measure, Indians in the Middle East haven’t forgotten that there’s another side to life – Ruqya Khan brings out Smart Life’s Adopt a Laborer campaign under the patronage of HE Sanjay Verma, in her story Helping Hands. It is heartening to know of the help being given by philanthropic Indians for their less fortunate fellow citizens.

NGI Middle East is proud to be the media partner of three important events coming up in Dubai – Ideas. Arabia hosted by Dubai Quality Group (DQG) the 7th International Conference 2012 with its central theme being Organizational Innovation. The second event is the Dubai Global Convention 2012 on CSR hosted by the Institute of Directors-India (IOD) and the Dubai Quality Group (DQG) in association with India’s Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) The convention will host the 7th International Conference on Social Responsibility and present the Golden Peacock Awards for CSR &Philanthropy. The 30th CA Conference hosted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) will follow this.

Comedy Connect, an event by Signature Events brought together two well-known comedians – Johnny Lever from India and Shakil Siddiqui from Pakistan who regaled the audience with their jokes, showing that wit and humor know no boundaries or differences!

A unique event held in Dubai’s Safa Park for ‘multiples’ saw twins, triplets and more come together for two days of fun and bonding, and was covered by NGI’s Monita Mohan who herself has a twin sister. The event was held under the umbrella of Multiplied UAE, run by Suman Manning, originally from Bangalore, India, and a mother of triplets. The Arch Trophy Emirates Airlines Twenty 20 Tournament held in March saw two cricketing greats – Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid included in the MCC XI team, sending their fans into a frenzy of excitement.

In the world of fashion, Sonali Raman from Qatar caught up with Selina Farooqui, a Graduate in Fashion Design from the Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar (Class of 2011), this young Indian sells her creations out of two of the top boutiques in Doha – Cugini and Impression Boutiques at the Pearl Qatar.

So as you can see, this edition of NGI is indeed very special – for music lovers, art enthusiasts, book and fashion lovers, philanthropists and sportsmen – showcasing multi-faceted, talented and dynamic Global Indians in the Middle East!
