Jamnagar refinery units and other enterprising acumen of Jamnagar

The Oil City stakes claim of two Jamnagar refinery units owned by Reliance and Essar, the two major oil refineries of India. As also the Brass city, it met with 80% need of the whole country in the field of brass parts products.

Jamnagar was also monikered as the ‘Liverpool of Saurashtra’ owing to its flourishing port business once that included trade with the western world. The ladies wear of Bandhani and Gharchola are popular even outside Gujarat and so is the zari kam of Jamnagar. Approximately 10% Jamnagar derives its income from this industry and it is exported outside of India. Before independence, Jamnagar City had the Department of Pearl separately in its government.

Armed Forces

After, Mumbai, Jamnagar City is the only city in India having base stations of all three wings of defence viz. Army, Navy and Air Force. They have their training and big bases. Geographically Jamnagar supports all branches of defence with access to the sea and close proximity with Pakistan.
