Du’s World Music Festival featuring the legendary Pyarelal Sharma collaborating with Kristjan Jarvi and Absolute Ensemble in the World Premiere of ‘Absolute India’ on15th March 2012… a BIG announcement that has created a lot of buzz around the city since Du announced their annual World Music Festival in Dubai from 7th to 16th March 2012.

The World Premier of ‘Absolute India’ will be held on 15th March 2012 at the iconic venue of Burj Khalifa Park. The news of the legend from India, Pyarelal Sharma, performing in Dubai for the first time is creating waves in world music. The City of Gold will witness a historic collaboration between the young and dynamic conductor Kristjan Jarvi (with Absolute Ensemble) and New Wave music composer Pyarelal Sharma, that will see them weave together the many threads of music from West, Middle East, India and Far East.

The project aims to offer a 12-tone scale of absolutely new music never performed before that can eventually become a major language to unite people in peace and harmony.

Dubai’s residents belong to different cultures and nationalities from all over the world, so it is befitting that the World Music composed & arranged by Pyarelal Sharma will be performed here for the first time, accompanied by talented musicians led by Dr. L Subramaniam and his son ‘Amby’, Pt. Bhawani Shankar (Pakhawaj), Pt. Vijay Ghate (Tabla), Naveen Kumar (Flute), Amit Chatterjee (Sitar & Jazz Fusion Guitar), Narendra Salaskar (prolific guitarist) and vocals by Kavita Krishnamurthy, Amit Kumar and Valentine Shipley. Sonu Niigaam for the first time in history Live with Absolute India singing ‘Original’ compostions of Laminkant Pyarelal with some of the ‘Original’ musicians of Bollywood.

As a mark of respect to Pyarelal ji there will be a special appearance by the melodious composer of today, Jatin Pandit. The young and vibrant Kristjan Jarvi, a permanent guest conductor with London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) will complete this whole musical story with his NYC based ‘Absolute Ensemble’ an ensemble of world class classical, jazz and rock musicians who play from their heart!

Dubai the city of dreams – some dreams see fulfillment, some don’t but the city continues to inspire people. All success stories begin with a dream that turns into reality. One such story is of Dr. Zulekha who came to UAE as a young doctor in early sixties and was recently honored for her contribution to the community. These are people who are not content to rest on their laurels and not scared to dream big.

Subhash Ghai, one of the finest filmmakers in Bollywood was in Dubai recently. He has straddled all corners of the world to promote filmmaking and Indian film Industry. A flaming passion for making movies keeps him in a league of his own. Sharing his insight with students on ‘The Business of Film-making’ at the University of Wollongong (UOWD) in Dubai recently, the veteran filmmaker said, “There has been a dramatic change in modern times, with the arrival of satellite TV and Internet. MTV culture has entered our style of cinema and there is deficient editing which is one of the causes for poor filmmaking.”

“Script will always remain the king in cinema, whether you are doing animation, art, science fiction, comedy or drama. It holds the key to the success of a film, and no amount of glamour, technical brilliance or item numbers can save a film if the script is weak,” said the National Award winner director, who is also the chairman of Whistling Woods International Institute for Film Television Animation and Media Arts, Mumbai.

During the Subhash Ghai speech at UOWD, renowned singer Shweta Pandit was also there to listen to his insightful talk. Fresh-faced, good looking and extremely talented grandniece of Hindustani classical music maestro Pandit Jasraj has sung a few hit numbers in Bollywood.

Last but not the least; Emirates LitFest 2012 is ready to feature some of the Indian literary icons. In Dubai, under the tagline, “There are places only books can take you,” the annual Emirates Airline Festival of Literature offers a chance for visitors to meet authors, attend literary debates, listen to readings and participate in workshops.
