Focus on quality should be the core strategy towards creating a confident workforce that drives both innovation and growth, writes Anirban R Banerjee.

Today, no matter what the field of 'work', quality is the key to survival and the crucial factor to make the right impact. We spend the major part of our lives in pursuit of our dreams. This drive towards a goal comes to an end only when it yields a result. It is doing quality work alone that can provide us with a sense of fulfillment, peace of mind, and satisfaction in whatever we manage to achieve. Failure to deliver quality output will not only mean a career setback or loss in business, but it will also impact our motivation and put a question mark on our ability to lead or be competitive.

Quality is an important enabler towards developing competency. Quality initiatives such as learning intervention can play a vital role in creating and driving a culture of change that enables the workforce to continuously focus on developing their competency. Quality is an equally crucial enabler for organizations when it comes to building a talent pool. Quality-driven strategy enables people to add new skills to meet the organization's expectations. As a Human Resource Analyst has pointed out, organizations with quality as their prime focus have 45% faster rate of talent development, as compared to organizations with quality as just one of their priorities.

That quality enables growth is evident from the fact that in the '80s and '90s, industries that adopted quality as a crucial strategy grew at a faster rate. With faster business growth came more opportunities when it came to qualitative roles and assignments for employees. Several research papers indicate that organizations with across-the-board focus on quality were able to create 24% more high-end roles in every three years and 35% more new roles, as compared to the previous decade. This resulted in a paradigm shift in expectation from technology's ability to drive business and the individual's ability to do things.

A 2008 Quality Report mentions that quality is the single largest determinant of people's perception about society, nation, and business. In other words, it is a vital component of branding. A recent Chamber of Commerce report has revealed that Philippines brought about a positive change in the way it is perceived in the Business Processing Outsourcing sector by simply focusing on quality education and skill-training facility.

Since for any organization, people are assets, it is critical to develop a qualitative talent base that is aligned to the organization's business objective. This will not only make the human resources more confident, but will also help in faster growth of leaders and drive innovation. In this way, we shall create a chain of change that drives growth for a better tomorrow and gives us satisfaction in what we do, thereby making our lives more fulfilling.
