World Education – Arts, Sciences and Education Culture Congress will commence from January 12 to 15 2011 in New Delhi, India. A sneak peek by Deepti Chaudhari…

The World Education Culture Congress, WE-ASC 2011 adopts a two-pronged approach:

1. To influence the evolving culture of education and educational pedagogy, with the objective of deep systemic change.

2. To examine representation and application of cultural/traditional knowledge and their dissemination in education systems with a view to developing practical solutions and formats for training, application, sustainable development and human empowerment

Lady Shruti Rana, an educationist, an acclaimed musician, a scholar and a teacher/exponent of Indic traditional knowledge systems and sciences is the convener for this grand event, sponsored by Indian Council for Cultural Relations, British Council and the Shruti Foundation. The participants include educators and educationists, artists and cultural institutions, spiritual teachers, thinkers, administrators, policy makers, parliamentarians and other government representatives from 40 countries.

Some of the dignitaries and specialists attending the conference are Smt Sheila Dikshit, Dr Karan Singh, Sri Jyotiraditya Scindia (Minister of State for Commerce and Industry), Lord Meghnad Desai, Baroness Usha Prashar, Lord Navnit Dholakia, Baroness Shreela Flather, Lord Diljit Rana, and educationist Dr Shyama Chona (Padma Bhushan).

Objectives

The WE-ASC movement seeks to facilitate the development of holistic pedagogies for socio-economic empowerment and sustainable development. The Congress will revisit educational philosophy, methodology and content development and draws special attention to course and curriculum development as well as evaluation and accreditation systems in primary, secondary and in particular, higher education.

Redefining Education
It examines modern literate and non-literate, within tangible and intangible formats. It focuses on spiritual, mental, psychological, emotional, and physiological skills to help facilitate personal excellence as well as new formats of skills training for socio-economic wellbeing. The WEASC Congress series will explore sensory, artistic, scientific, psychological, cultural and spiritual approaches for imparting education and transmission of knowledge. It will encourage cross-cultural connections and participatory research for evolving education culture through the application of arts and artistic sciences in education as well as health-care.

Finally, WE-ASC Education Congress 2011 will work towards conclusions and resolutions on education policy, educational and cultural rights, collaborations, ethics, evaluation and accreditation, course and curriculum development, which will be discussed and adopted by the concluding day of the Congress for follow up with educational and cultural institutions, research and policy making bodies, educational institutions and government bodies internationally.

The first WE-ASC Congress will be held in January 2011, New Delhi, India, with subsequent congresses in South Africa, UK and other countries.

Programme

The pre-Congress events will include the Shruti Foundation Integral Education Workshop on January 11 and chanting for peace opening day Morning Prayer session on January 12.

The inaugural session will take place on January 12 at the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, New Delhi. On January 13 and 14, the India Habitat Centre will host the academic and cultural sessions. The British Council in New Delhi will be the venue of the closing day activities on January 15.

The WE-ASC Congress in 2011 will include special plenary sessions with parliamentarians and education institutional heads, academic sessions with talks and lectures, artistic performances, workshops (pre, post and during congress), exhibition and sale of education and art products, demonstrations by master craftsmen as part of art and crafts education, as well as networking theme tables. Reports and feedback from working groups will be taken at the end of the congress. Congress resolutions will be drafted for world bodies, government, cultural and educational institutions.

The WE-ASC Congress 2011 will discuss various educational and cultural issues: The Evolution of educational psychology and education culture; Cultural inclusions and influences in education; Intangible Cultural Heritage and Education; Education of Sciences through the Arts or Forms in Ethnic Cultures; Training of Skills and Sustainable Development; Education, media and journalism; Education though music, fine Arts, Dance, Sculpture, Architecture and other Artistic Sciences; Training of educators and educational pedagogy; Education and Disadvantaged Groups; Gender Issues in Education; Education of Management Arts in Diverse Traditions; Wellness and Health-Care Education in Alternative and Artistic Systems; Education and entrepreneurship; Education and Character Development; Traditional Knowledge Systems (TKS) and their contemporary relevance; Education in Design and Design as an education tool; The Art and Science of Sports Education and its value in HRD; Spirituality and Wisdom in Education; Religion in Education; Education and the Internet; New Paradigms and Models for Education; Curriculum and Course Development; Accreditation of the Arts and Cultural Education; Centralised certification on education in Heritage Studies and TKS; Revisiting Examination and Evaluation formats and systems; Evolving Accreditation systems and policies.

Post-Congress, there will be a Nada Empowerment Vibrational HealingWorkshop on January 16 followed by an Indian Sacred Arts’ Workshop Exploring Science in SacredArt andArchitecture on January 17.

For participants at the congress, there will be early registration discounts for registering before September 30, 2010. August 15, 2010 is the last day for submitting abstracts and panel proposals.
